Data. Digital. Things.

Three words, no fluff. We build the data platforms, digital products and connected things that keep Australian businesses running — designed here, hosted here, supported here.

What we do

The name is the menu.

Every engagement lands in one of three buckets — or joins them together. That's the point.

01

Data.

Turn the numbers you already have into decisions you can act on. No jargon, no black boxes.

  • Data warehousing & pipelines
  • Dashboards & reporting
  • Analytics & forecasting
  • Data governance & sovereignty
02

Digital.

Websites, apps and platforms that do a job — built to be fast, found, and easy to run.

  • Websites & web apps
  • E-commerce
  • Systems integration & APIs
  • Workflow automation
03

Things.

The physical end of digital — sensors, devices and the odd jobs nobody else wants to quote.

  • IoT & sensor networks
  • Device integration
  • Legacy system rescue
  • The weird & wonderful
Made here

Local isn't a feature.
It's the whole point.

  • SovereigntyYour data stays in Australia. Hosted in Australian data centres, governed by Australian law — not shipped offshore to save a dollar.
  • TimezoneSupport when you're actually awake. Call during Australian business hours and a person answers. Radical, we know.
  • Plain speakingAdvice without the buzzwords. If we can't explain it over a coffee, we haven't understood it well enough ourselves.

Got a data, digital or things problem?

Services

Three words.
One team.

Most agencies do one of these. We do all three, which matters — because your data problem is usually also a digital problem, and half the time there's a physical thing involved too.

01 — Data.

Know what's actually happening.

Your business already generates the answers — they're just scattered across point-of-sale exports, accounting software, spreadsheets and someone's memory. We pull it together, keep it clean, and put it in front of the people who need it.

  • Data warehousing & pipelines.

One reliable home for your numbers, refreshed automatically, hosted in Australia.

  • Dashboards & reporting.

Live views your team will actually open — built around your decisions, not our templates.

  • Analytics & forecasting.

From "what happened" to "what's likely next" — demand, cash flow, capacity.

  • Governance & sovereignty.

Who can see what, where it lives, and proof it never leaves the country.

02 — Digital.

Build things that pull their weight.

A website is a shopfront, a booking desk and a salesperson that never sleeps — or it's an expensive brochure. We build the first kind, and we connect it to the systems you already run so nothing gets re-typed twice.

  • Websites & web apps.

Fast, findable, accessible — and easy for your own team to update.

  • E-commerce.

Stores that sync stock, shipping and accounting instead of creating admin.

  • Integration & APIs.

Make your CRM, accounting, inventory and website talk to each other properly.

  • Workflow automation.

Kill the copy-paste jobs. If a human does it twice a day, a computer probably should.

03 — Things.

Where digital meets the shed floor.

Tanks, trucks, coolrooms, pumps, paddocks — plenty of Australian businesses run on physical assets that the software world ignores. We put sensors on them, get the data flowing, and rescue the legacy systems nobody else will touch.

  • IoT & sensor networks.

Temperature, level, location, movement — monitored remotely, alerting before it's a problem.

  • Device integration.

Get scales, scanners, PLCs and point-of-sale gear feeding your systems directly.

  • Legacy rescue.

That critical system built in 2009 by someone who's since retired? We'll take it from here.

  • The weird & wonderful.

If it involves data, a screen or a sensor and nobody else will quote it — try us.

Not sure which bucket you're in?

That's normal. Most good projects sit across two. Tell us the problem in plain words and we'll sort the rest.

Work

Problems, solved.

Every project below started with a business problem, not a technology wishlist. Here's what changed.

EDIT-WORK · placeholder Data · Manufacturing

One dashboard replaced eleven spreadsheets.

Month-end reporting took a week and was out of date the day it landed. We piped production, sales and inventory data into one live dashboard, refreshed nightly, hosted onshore.

Result: reporting effort down ~90%
EDIT-WORK · placeholder Digital · Professional services

A booking flow that stopped leaking clients.

After-hours enquiries went to voicemail and were never returned. A rebuilt site with online booking and automated reminders captures them instead.

Result: bookings up, no-shows down
EDIT-WORK · placeholder Things · Cold chain

Coolroom sensors that text before stock spoils.

A food distributor lost a fridge overnight and $30k of product with it. Networked temperature sensors now alert the on-call phone the moment a unit drifts.

Result: zero spoilage events since
EDIT-WORK · placeholder Digital + Data · Retail

An online store that talks to the warehouse.

Stock levels on the website were fiction, and refunds were eating margin. We integrated e-commerce, inventory and accounting so all three agree, always.

Result: oversells eliminated
EDIT-WORK · placeholder Data · Agriculture

Water data from the paddock to the phone.

Checking tank levels meant a two-hour drive. Solar-powered level sensors now report to a simple mobile view, with trends and low-level alerts.

Result: hours back every single week
EDIT-WORK · placeholder Digital · Legacy rescue

A 2009 job system, brought back from the brink.

The original developer had retired and the server was on borrowed time. We documented it, migrated it to modern onshore hosting, and rebuilt the fragile bits.

Result: business-critical risk retired

Your problem could be next.

Process

No mysteries.
No surprises.

The same five steps, every project. You'll always know where things are up to, what it costs, and what happens next.

01.

Listen.

Free · 30–60 min

A conversation, not a pitch. You explain the problem in your words; we ask questions until we understand the business behind it. If we're not the right fit, we'll say so and point you somewhere better.

02.

Scope.

1–2 weeks

We put the plan in writing: what we'll build, what it costs, what's deliberately left out, and what "done" looks like. Fixed price wherever possible. Plain English, always.

03.

Build.

Project dependent

Short cycles, working software early. You see real progress every week or two and steer as we go — no six-month silence followed by a big reveal.

04.

Land.

Launch + handover

Launch is a checklist, not a leap of faith. We train your team, hand over documentation you can actually read, and stay close through the first weeks of real use.

05.

Look after.

Ongoing · optional

Support in your timezone from the people who built it. Monitoring, updates, small improvements — or full independence if you'd rather run it yourself. Your call.

Why it works

Small enough that the person you meet is the person who builds it.

  • Fixed-price by default.

You shouldn't need a finance degree to know what a project costs.

  • You own everything.

Code, accounts, data, domain — in your name from day one. No hostage situations.

  • Boring technology, on purpose.

Proven tools that will still be supported in ten years beat this month's shiny thing.

Step one is free.

About

Home-grown.
Plain-spoken.

Data Digital Things is an independent Australian consultancy. We started because too many local businesses were paying agency prices for offshore work, jargon-heavy reports and support tickets that vanished into another hemisphere.

The name

Say what you do.
Do what you say.

We could have called ourselves something abstract with a lowercase logo. Instead we wrote down what we actually do — data, digital, things — and put a full stop after each one. The full stop is a promise: a sentence that ends, a project that finishes, a scope that means what it says.

That's the whole brand. It fits on a business card and it keeps us honest.

What we stand on
  • Onshore, full stop.

Australian hosting, Australian law, Australian support. Your data doesn't emigrate.

  • Straight answers.

If something's a bad idea, we'll tell you before you pay for it — even when the bad idea is ours.

  • Built to hand over.

Documentation, training and ownership sit with you. Good work shouldn't create dependence.

  • Small by design.

Senior people do the work. There's no B-team to hand you to after the contract's signed.

Who we work with

Australian businesses with real operations — makers, movers, growers, sellers, fixers — who need technology that earns its keep.

We're at our best with owner-led and mid-sized organisations where the tech budget has to justify itself. If you've been burned by a big agency, ghosted by a freelancer, or baffled by a proposal — you're exactly who we built this for.

Come say g'day.
